Obituary
Nicholas Smith , age 86, of Seventh Street, Waverly, Ohio formerly of Paintsville, KY, died 6:35 P.M. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born August 22, 1923 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a son of the late William and Rachael Emory Smith. On November 5, 1976 he was united in marriage to Ethel Lankford Smith who survives. Also surviving are one sister, Prudence Murray of Arlington, Ma., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a retired systems analyst with the US government, was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church, the Gideons International, and was a WWII and Korea Army veteran, retiring as a Colonel in the Army Reserves. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Roger Hauck officiating. Burial will follow in Waverly Evergreen Union Cemetery with military graveside services by Merritt Post #142, American Legion of Waverly. Friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, or the Bristol Village Foundation resident care fund.
